چکیده

This section contains statements of our results on homotopy operations as well as some applications of these results. The proofs depend on material in §2 and will be given in §3Note that, aside from the computations in ~,S at the end of this section, all the results here apply to the homotopy of any H ring spectrum Y. Let ~:DpY + Y denote the structure map. The order of results in this section is: relation to other operations, particular operations and relations, Cartan formulas, computations in w,S, remarks. In order not to interrupt the main flow of ideas, we have deferred a number of remarks until the end of the section. Throughout this section let Er(X,Y) be the ordinary mod p Adams spectral sequence converging to IX,Y]., and let Er(S,~ ) be the spectral sequence of IV §6 based on ordinary rood p homology. Let ~ be the sequence

Working in the context of symmetric spectra, we prove higher homotopy excision and higher Blakers–Massey theorems, and their duals, for algebras and left modules over operads in the category of modules over a commutative ring spectrum (e.g., structured ring spectra). We also prove analogous results for algebras and left modules over operads in unbounded chain complexes.

Ring Spectra via Space - Level Homotopy Theory

Our main goal in this chapter is to show that the spectrum KU representing periodic complex K-theory has an H~ structure. The existence of such a structure is important since it will allow us to develop a complete theory of Dyer-Lashof operations in K-theory, including the computation of K,(O3(); this program is carried out in chapter IX. Of course, we already know that the connective spectrum ...

THE METHOD OF INFINITE DESCENT IN STABLE HOMOTOPY THEORY I January 29, 2001

This paper is the first in a series aimed at clarifying and extending of parts of the last chapter of [Rav86], in which we described a method for computing the AdamsNovikov E2-term and used it to determine the stable homotopy groups of spheres through dimension 108 for p = 3 and 999 for p = 5. The latter computation was a substantial improvement over prior knowledge, and neither has been improv...

Completed representation ring spectra of nilpotent groups

In this paper, we examine the “derived completion” of the representation ring of a pro-p group G∧ p with respect to an augmentation ideal. This completion is no longer a ring: it is a spectrum with the structure of a module spectrum over the Eilenberg–MacLane spectrum HZ , and can have higher homotopy information. In order to explain the origin of some of these higher homotopy classes, we defin...
